Step 2: Storing Your Recovery Phrase
To securely store your recovery phrase (also known as a seed phrase), consider the following options:
- Paper Backup (Paper Wallet)
- Pros: Simple, offline, and does not require a device.
- How: Write down your recovery phrase on a piece of paper, ensuring it is legible and accurate.
- Security: Store the paper in a secure, weatherproof location (e.g., a safe or vault) protected from fire, water, and theft.
- Important: Make copies and store them in 2-3 different but secure locations (home safe, bank safety deposit box, vacation home safe, etc.).
- Metal Backup (Sheet or Metal Plate)
- Pros: Durable and resistant to fire and water.
- How: Engrave or write your recovery phrase onto a metal plate (e.g., stainless steel). There are specialized metal storage solutions available (https://shorturl.at/Ua1c5) (not a purchase recommendation).
- Security: Store the metal backup in a secure location, such as a bank vault or another protected area.
- Hardware Wallet
- Pros: Secure and offline, with no internet connection required.
- How: Store your recovery phrase on a hardware wallet (e.g., Ledger or Trezor). These devices add an extra layer of security, as they are only needed when connecting to a computer or mobile device.
- Security: Ensure the hardware wallet arrives sealed and store it securely. Never share it online or in unprotected environments.
Step 3: Importing Your Recovery Phrase into Another Wallet
This step is optional and only needed when you want to regain access to your assets. The assets stored in your Zippy Wallet remain secure after Step 2. Step 3 can be performed anytime without a time limit after exporting the recovery phrase.
Since Zippy is an Ethereum-based wallet, the recovery phrase can only be imported into wallets that support Ethereum.
